http://www.penguinsource.co.nr/How do you know if your laptop can hold a second battery? If the battery is dead so you have to replace it to new one i haven't heard about the secondary battery. How do you know if your laptop can hold a second battery?I think your laptop was actually pointing out the 2 types of batteries. First, is the primary one which refers to the cells which can only be used once since it is not capable of recharging. Then the secondary battery would refer to the battery which can be rechargeable. I think Primary states that the charger is plugged on while secondary would refer to the stored energy or voltage in your laptop's battery. In any case, I never encountered the possibility of having 2 batteries joined in a laptop simultaneously. How do you know if your laptop can hold a second battery?Yes, your computer can hold TWO batteries at the same time.

Many Dells have the ability to hold two batteries at the same time. One is the standard battery, and the other is called the modular media bay battery.

If you're on the fence about this kind of secondary battery, let me just tell you from experience - it's awesome. I get nearly 8 hours of battery life when I have both batteries, with WIFI on and surfing the internet.
