How do I add a 12 Volt battery to a 24 volt series connection?

I have a 24 Volt battery set(12*2) connected to an Inverter and would like to add a 12 Volt battery to this. If I connect 12 V battery to one of the batteries in 24 V set will this add back up time of the Inverter? How do I add a 12 Volt battery to a 24 volt series connection? If you add the 12V battery in series that will be a 36V total and may harm your inverter.

If you add a 12V battery in parallel with one segment of your 24V system, you will not get more run-time because the system will be dependent on the 12V battery that doesn't have anything in parallel with it and the solution would be to get two 12V batteries so you can parallel the whole thing and get more run-time.How do I add a 12 Volt battery to a 24 volt series connection? No. It will actually create a hazard. Connecting a 12 V battery that is the same size as the original battery to each of the original batteries (parrellel) would be OK. Best bet is to replace original 2 bateries with larger 12 volt (higher amp hour rating) batteries. How do I add a 12 Volt battery to a 24 volt series connection? No,the battery shouldn't add back up time of the Inverter..

  • What happens if I attach a battery to a superconductor circuit?

If a superconductor has a resistance of zero - then from ohms law the potential difference must be zero. If there is no potential difference how can current flow from the battery? What happens if I attach a battery to a superconductor circuit? The battery does have a potential difference between its terminals , the superconductor simply has no resistance .Put a superconductor between the battery terminals and a very large current flows for a brief time, thereafter , you simply have a superconductor connected to a high resistance. .What happens if I attach a battery to a superconductor circuit?DDD - Superconductors really do have zero resistance, not just extremely low resistance. What happens if I attach a battery to a superconductor circuit? There will still be a potential difference between the positive and negative points.

Any current in the battery must flow through the internal resistance. The internal resistance is in series with the voltage of the battery, causing an internal voltage drop. With no current flow, the voltage drop is zero; thus, the full battery voltage is developed across the output terminals.

As you connect the battery over the superconductor the current flow would only be limited by the internal resistance of the battery.

A torch battery has an internal resistance of around 0.1 ohms and a car battery about 0.001 ohms. What happens if I attach a battery to a superconductor circuit? The battery will have some internal resistance that will limit the current with the zero ohms of the superconductor. Current will flow in a perfect superconductor even with no voltage. i = v/rWhat happens if I attach a battery to a superconductor circuit?even super conductors have resistance... just exceedingly low resistance, and ohm's law isn't true, it's mostly an approximation. But in answer to your question, taking your premise. As you no doubt know ohm's law states I=V/R, therefore as R decreases, and Potential Difference V remains constant (given this is an EMF), I Increases. As R-%26gt;0, I-%26gt; infinity. Until there is no more potential difference, IE you wear out your battery...

How to install a battery for a dell inspiron computer?

I have a dell inspiron 630m computer and i bought a battery. My friends said it's very easy to install and found instructions online, but i don't know where the battery is located. I know its somewhere on the bottom of the computer but when I checked each slot none of them looked like a battery. Anyone know where it is, and how to get to it?How to install a battery for a dell inspiron computer? What type of battery? The actual battery to power the laptop? or the motherboard battery? (button cell battery)

The main battery - to replace, set your laptop flat, facing you. Flip it upside down so that the front is still facing you.

Now, on the bottom left - that's where your battery is.

You'll see a slider - slide it across, and you should see the battery rise a little bit. now pull the raised tab on the battery towards you.

You have now taken out the battery.

To put the new one in... put it in!

  • How do i find what is draining the battery in my car?

The battery is in good working order as is the alternater I have checked all interior lights but they are ok. The battery goes from a full charge to dead in about 3 days, any help would be great, thanks. How do i find what is draining the battery in my car?SadAct, I have some Sad Fact.

It really comes down to a process of elimination.

If you have a multi-meter it will help. If you don't you can still probably eliminate the circuit until you find whatever it is that is draining the battery.

Check all the obvious things first, is the trunk lamp staying on when the trunk lid is closed. I got in mine while my wife closed the lid on her Cadillac and sure enough the light stayed on. she had knocked the switch out of place loading grocery's.

Check The light under th hood as well. take them out and put them in the glove box if your in doubt. How about the interior lights, the doors control them they can be on during the day and you won't notice.

Under the hood, the alternator can have a bad diode and discharge the battery while still putting out a reduced output enough to keep the alternator light off. Disconnect the positive lead from the alternator ...did it spark a little as you removed it, if so there's your problem. Be careful don't touch that lead to ground, you'll have more problems.

If this isn't it we move to other possibilities.

    I'll assume you don't have a meter:

disconnect the negative battery cable you will be be using this to test with.

When you get the neg. terminal off, tap the cable back to the neg. battery post. note the spark you get as you tap it on and off the post. go to your fuse panel and remove one fuse at a time, going back to the neg. battery terminal to check that spark, hopefully you will pull one of the fuses and the spark will be very small. that will be the circuit that is draining the battery.

if none of the fuses stop or largely reduce the spark, you will need to check for wiring problems, usually a wire short will clear itself by blowing a fuse or fusible link, so I don't think this is your problem.

Remember check the obvious things first.

Yours: GrumpyHow do i find what is draining the battery in my car?If your battery went dead, and you either recharged or replaced it, and you've checked the alternator, do you have something such as your car stereo hooked directly to your battery? How do i find what is draining the battery in my car?alternatorHow do i find what is draining the battery in my car?start pulling fuze's until you locate the circuit that's causing the problem! How do i find what is draining the battery in my car?It is the Regulator. But when you replace the Regulator you should install a new Alternator at the same time. How do i find what is draining the battery in my car?I'll try to provide a simplified explanation of how the externally regulated alternator and regulator work here. This explanation starts from a parked car with engine off state.

The regulator brown #4 wire is connected through the light bulb to 12V whenever the key is in the ON position. The other end goes through a set of points in the regulator and then out the F terminal to the field winding in the alternator. So some current begins flowing in the field winding from this connection. The little bit of current flowing produces a weak magnet field in the alternator and also lights the bulb.

When you then start the car, the weak magnetic field from above begins rotating which makes the alternator producing a little bit of voltage. This voltage is fed from the alternator to the regulator on the white regulator #2 wire. This wire connects to a coil in the regulator and turns on a contact when the voltage goes above 3.2V.

Once the contact turns on in the regulator the #3 and #4 terminals are connected together. Terminal #3 is battery power so this puts battery power on both sides of the bulb and turns it off. This means the brown #4 wire should go to +12V. Also, this connects the field terminal right to battery power but still going through the points.

When the battery voltage goes above a set level, the F terminal is disconnected from the battery power by the points I kept mentioning. Then the voltage drops and the points close again. This on-off cycling happens rapidly and is how the voltage gets regulated.

From the above (KOEO = key on engine off and KOER = key on engine running).

    F or #1 terminal (field) - KOEO = #4 slight voltage, KOER = 9-12V typically

    #2 terminal (sense) - KOEO = 0V, KOER = %26gt;3.2V

    #3 terminal (Battery) - KOEO = 12V, KOER = 12V

    #4 terminal (light) - KOEO = F slight voltage, KOER = 12V

By 12V above I mean battery voltage, which may be 12V when engine is off but could be up to 14.5V when engine is running.

Check the light: Ground the brown #4 terminal wire at the regulator. When grounded the light should come on. If you don't have a light then skip this test. Test this with the connector off the regulator.

Checking the alternator: Jumper the blue wire F terminal to the battery post on the back. This should make it easily crank out 16+ volts. Next, connect a troublelight between the battery post and the F terminal. The light should come on and you should measure %26gt; 3.2V at the other alternator terminal. If it passes these tests, then it's in the regulator or wiring.

Checking the wiring: At the regulator connector jumper the brown light wire (#4) to the F terminal (#1) and you should be able to measure %26gt;3.2 volts on the other alternator terminal or terminal #2 of the regulator connector. If these tests pass, it is in your regulator.

When doing these tests, make sure you turn off or pull the fuses for any added electronics that you can. The alternator test can produce enough voltage to damage stuff.

IF you have an external regulator try thisHow do i find what is draining the battery in my car?Your battery is not in good working order if it goes dead in 3 days. With the key off and the underhood light removed.

Disconnect the Positive battery terminal cable then touch it back to the battery terminal.

If it sparks you have an electrical problem.

If it does not spark you have either an Alternator problem (no suffcient charge) or a battery problem, most likely sulfation from age if it is old.

If you get the spark, disconnect one fuse at a time until the sparking stops, that is your problem circuit.

Of course you can do this with a Multimeter if you so choose LOLHow do i find what is draining the battery in my car?Way I was taught in the Forces was this (for emergencies in the field).

Connect a volt meter across the battery - it should read over12V if charged. Start the vehicle, Voltage reading should now be higher. Increase the revs to about 2,000rpm, voltage should increase and stay at new level (usually over 13V) until revs eased off.

If voltage does not increase, suspect charging circuit and this usually means a duff alternator.

How to build a parallel battery using lemons?

I want to use a home made parallel battery using lemons. I have galvanized nails, copper wire, lemons, and pennies. I want to make an LED light light up. My science teacher said it should work, but I'm confused on how to build the parallel circuit. PLEASE HELP!How to build a parallel battery using lemons? You need four lemons to build 4 cells, then series them to get enough voltage to light a LED.

Insert nail and thick flat copper wire into lemon as deep as they can. Place nail and copper wire as close as they can but do not let them touch together. Now copper wire is negative pole and nail is positive post. Connect first lemon cell copper wire to second lemon cell nail, 2nd cell copper to 3rd. cell nail ......until the 4th cell. Connect LED anode to first cell nail, LED cathod to 4th. cell copper.LED shall be lighted up.How to build a parallel battery using lemons?A parallel circuit alone probably won't help. Connecting batteries in parallel adds together their amperage. Light emitting diodes, or at least the small ones, do not draw much amperage at all. Batteries in series adds together the voltage, which would be more helpful in this case, but given how little electricity lemon batteries produce, I would suggest you use a circuit of both series AND parallel circuits to wire the lemon batteries together, giving you both the voltage and amperage you need to light the LED. You would probably connect like, four lemons together with the copper on one to the zinc of another, make a few of those strings of four, and then connecting the copper ends of the strings to each other, and the zinc ends of the string to each other. Of course, you may need more or less in series.

Should run through the cycles - charging fully and discharging fully repeatedly like any other battery notebook or not?How is a Li ion battery based notebook diff from others? How can it be best maintained?Li-Ion batteries are usually lighter, can last longer and avoid the typical memory effect found in Ni-Cad batteries.

Although Li-Ion and Li-Ion Polymer batteries are known for not having memory effect issues, the battery cells do need to be conditioned immediately upon receiving the battery and then once a month to help those individual cells remember to hold a charge. Frequent shallow charges do not condition the battery and can effect the battery's over all life span and performance.

Li-Ion batteries also do slowly discharge when not in use. If you are not going to be using the battery for several weeks or months, you will still want to keep the battery is good performance by conditioning it with a complete drain and a full charge at least once a month.

How long to charge laptop battery on first use?

    Hey,

Getting a new laptop tomorrow and I was wondering how long a should charge it for before switching it on. I read online that you only need to charge it until its full but I have heard you should charge it like you would with a new phone, about 8 hours or so. How long should my laptop battery stay charged?

I have an Acer Aspire 5315 computer, purchased Christmas '07. I use it mainly at my desk, so it is plugged and charging almost constantly. However, when I unplug it I get about 15 minutes before it starts beeping at me to recharge. Is this normal? Seems a bit pointless for a mobile device. Also, if it is a problem with the battery, is this sort of thing usually covered under warranty? Thanks. How long should my laptop battery stay charged? It should last longer than that! sheesh!

If you purchased it last Christmas... you could ask the company for a new battery... you might strike gold so to speak and get them to send you out a new battery.....

If your computer is usually plugged into a wall or so, you can take the battery out.... keeping it plugged into the wall is more or less like murder... ok maybe not murder because you aren't planning to do it ... so... a slow homicide... lol.... it's bad for the battery...

You COULD try to save the battery, just leave it on and un-plugged until it dies a few times (make SURE to save your work though!) then after that just run it down until it's almost dead and then charge it back up... I had a friend that their computer only lasted about this long too, he did that and it saved it....

but try contacting Acer first, if they give you the battery it'll either A) save you from doing CPR on your battery.. or B) Save you the $$$ so you don't have to buy another battery!

  • How to switch a toy from battery power to AC power?

    Hi,

My daughter has a baby cradle/swing that takes 4 D-Batteries. We end up having to buy batteries almost every week. We've tried rechargable batteries, but they too don't seem to last too long either. Anybody know if it is possible to DIY / re-wire the swing from battery to AC power? How to switch a toy from battery power to AC power?Sure. I wouldn't recommend it though.

Here is what you could do:

    4 D-Batteries @ 1.5 volts each = 6 volts input.

Go to Radio Shack ask the desperate sales person you need a 6V AC Power Transformer. You could search eBay also.

You need to splice the wires from the transformer to your cradle/swing connections and solder them together.

~How to switch a toy from battery power to AC power?I agree with the other posters. Not recommended, and not practical even if possible.

A better option is to buy the very best quality rechargeables you can find, get yourself at least two sets, and keep at least one pair of the suckers charged.

I haven't yet seen D cells in Lithium Ion Rechargeables (1.5v), but they will come soon I am sure. Neither is Energizer yet producing D size Lithium e2 batteries, although their AA and AAA cells are unbelievable.

Keep your eyes peeled. Subscribe to the newsletter at our site if you like. I am sure the C and D cells from Energizer will come soon, and we will announce it when they do.

Good luck! How to switch a toy from battery power to AC power? No you can't. The toy is not rated for AC power. It would not be safe to let your daughter play with it.

4 D batteries give a DC voltage of 6 volts. which is harmless. House AC is 120 volts which can be fatal.

Thanks for all the negatives guys.

Sure you can get a 120 to 6 volt transformer. One problem. The 6 volt transformer is AC output and the toy requires DC.

So now you have to buy a rectifier to convert 6 volts AC to 6 volts DC.

By this time its cheaper to buy a battery charger with a 6 volt output.

How long is the battery life of a 6 cell standard laptop lithium ion battery?

how long does the battery last before it has to be charged again and does it vary from one laptop to the next?

if so how's the battery life if u get the standard battery on an hp pavilion (im looking into the dv5z series)

also if anybody can give me any pointers on how to maximize battery life and prevent losing battery life as the battery gets older, it would be appreciated How long is the battery life of a 6 cell standard laptop lithium ion battery? If it is high capacity, it might last 4 hours, (Internet only). if is not about 3 hours. How long is the battery life of a 6 cell standard laptop lithium ion battery? It depends dramatically on the specs of the laptop it's connected to. I have a 9-cell that lasts three hours tops under Linux (and 2 1/2 under Vista) on a gaming laptop, but I've heard on lower end systems runtimes in the order of 4 hours up on even the default battery.

One way to maximize battery life, on Vista, is turning off the Aero Glass interface since it uses 3d hardware to render (which is why Linux runs longer for me), also turn down the screen brightness to the minimum you need to view it, find a way to spin down the hard drives when they're not needed, don't use any external devices, turn off unneeded subsystems that can be turned off (like wireless and Bluetooth when you're not using it, accessory lights, etc.). To that end there might even be ways to turn off Services under Windows to demand less hard drive access. Also another biggie is to find a way to throttle down the CPU to the minimum it allows. How long is the battery life of a 6 cell standard laptop lithium ion battery?Well, I can't really answer your first set because I'm honestly not too sure (I can get up to 8 hours on my Macbook, if that helps), but I have TONNS of pointers--

    1. Turn your screen as dim as you can

    2. Press ctrl, alt, and delete on your PC (or command, option, esc on mac), and always shut off all programs that you don't need running

    3. If you have wifi/whatever running and you don't need it, shut it off

    4. Playing movies will wear your battery right down, so if you can help it, don't watch any if you need long battery life for something

    long term:

    1. Keep your battery as cool as possible at all times (but not below like 40 degrees)

    2. When you're using AC power, take your battery out! The hard drive will get your battery hot and it will lose its life slowly

    3. When you have to use your battery, try to wear it down all the way every time you use it. Don't use it some, re-charge it, use it some more, re-charge it---wear it all the way down and then charge it.

I hope this helps :)How long is the battery life of a 6 cell standard laptop lithium ion battery?Well, I'm looking at the exact same laptop and I'm wanting the 12-cell (I know, it's really bulgy, but i think it's worth it). you should probably upgrade to 12-cell or 6-cell upgrade (not sure what it's called, it's like power saving battery or something).

Lithium-ion batteries (sometimes abbreviated Li-ion batteries) are a type of rechargeable battery in which the cathode (positive electrode) contains lithium, and the anode (negative electrode)is made of a type of porous carbon. During normal operation, the current flows (when the external circuit is connected) from the anode to the cathode, as in any type of battery. During this process, the battery is discharged and the internal process occurring within the battery is the movement of Li+ ions through the non-aqueous electrolyte and separator diaphragm to the carbon cathode. The lithium ions become deeply embedded in the carbon cathode in a process known as intercalation.

How can i revive a battery pack on my cordless drill?

I have two battery packs for my 18v Dewalt drill and neither will take a charge. Is there a way to revive them so they will charge up?How can i revive a battery pack on my cordless drill?I've tried using the freezing and heating method, but it did not work. Here's a method of bringing them back to life by zapping those shorted crystal dendrites away with too much current and/or voltage. You can use a welder as a power source. You could also use a car battery, a DC powersupply, or almost anything with some voltage. Make sure to wear eye protection, match negative with negative and positive with positive, and zap it for 1 - 2 seconds a couple of times and it should be good as new. I 'd hook up the negative side to the battery first. Then touch the positive to the positive side. You want to see some sparks - it is normal and not to worry. If you're not sure which is positive or negative on the battery, you can use a volt meter - use the meter also to measure the almost immediate result before and after the battery has been zapped. Repeat the process if the battery is still not holding charge, but I can assure you that you will see a big difference almost right away. The battery companies do not want us to know about it so they can continue to rip us off. Good Luck! How can i revive a battery pack on my cordless drill? No simple way as rechargeable batteries have a limited number o fcharge and discharge cycle, around 200 to 500. The alternator is tied to the battery, so will it be enough to charge the car's and trailer's battery? How can I use my towing car to charge the battery in my small tent trailer? You can tap into your towing car's power supply, and it can usually supply enough power to charge an extra battery. If you do most of your driving at night, your headlights may increase the drain on your alternator and cause you problems. How can I use my towing car to charge the battery in my small tent trailer?I would be affraid burning out an alternator. my wife's prism (corrolla twin) burnt out two alternators due to dead cells in batteries. $150 a pop for rebuilt alternator, me changing them out.How can I use my towing car to charge the battery in my small tent trailer? You need to install a dual battery system. If you attempt this without the proper components, you will burn the diode out in your alternator, as it will detect the extra current draw as a short. If you install a dual battery system, your alternator will keep both batteries fully charged and ready to go.How can I use my towing car to charge the battery in my small tent trailer?Yes, the alternator will charge both batteries, but to be safe I wouldn't power any other devices while charging both batteries(i.e radio, headlights, etc.) The second battery is a load, which will draw current at a rate that is a function of its present voltage and mAh rating. So if the cell is severly drained, it will draw a lot more current. I would fuse it for sure. How can I use my towing car to charge the battery in my small tent trailer?Round style trailer plugs charge batteries on campers with no damage done to tow vehicle. Take your car and trailer to a R.V. dealership, they can change both plugs for around $100. Or buy a battery charger, and keep it plugged into your camper on trickle charge. This should keep your battery up for a long time on a pop-up camper. If it don't then you need a new battery(camper). How can I use my towing car to charge the battery in my small tent trailer?depends on the size of that battery

How to check a car battery with a Multimeter?

    Hi,

How exactly do you do the above, does the battery have to be connected to the car or disconnected, does it need to be fully charged?

Thanks in advance. How to check a car battery with a Multimeter?Hi

Heres a couple or three checks you can do with a volt meter, but the real test is to have it checked by an autofactor with a proper amp tester.

Read the voltage across the battery and then start the engine and read it again with the engine running.

If both readings are more or less the same then swap the meter to read ohms, switch off the engine, and take an ohm reading between the battery negative terminal and a good earth point on the engine and also a good earth point on the car body. If there is any significant resistance at either test then check the main earth strap(s) for damage and security. If there is no significant resistance then read on:-

Change the meter back to volts and connect the positive probe to the battery positive terminal and the negative probe to the other end of the battery positive cable at the back of the alternator. If the reading is anything other than a 1, -1, or zero, then the battery positive cable needs to be changed.

If all of the above checks out and the voltage with the engine running is around 13.5 volts to 13.9 volts, or maybe a little more, then switch on the headlights, the heater blower onto full, and the heated rear window, then raise the revs to 2500 and check the volts again. If the reading remains in the 13.5 to 13.9 volt range then all is good in the charging system, otherwise the alternator is at fault.

If all of the above checks out and the battery is not holding a charge or not taking a charge, then the battery is very highly likely at fault.

    Phew!!!!

    Very best regards

GeordieHow to check a car battery with a Multimeter? That's a nice change, everybody's giving good advice here! I agree with all the answers given to your question so far. The only real way to know how much power a battery holds is to charge it right up, flatten it and see how much power you got out. As everyone has said, there is little difference between the voltage across a flat (good) battery and a charged one. One problem is that as batteries age, they fill up with a sludge (lead sulphate) which coats the plates and fills it up from the bottom. This means in effect that the battery is getting smaller, but the voltage across a small charged battery is the same as a big battery so you don't really get any meaningful information that way. Also, the voltage will be higher than usual for some hours after you last run the engine. Well, you've got some extra info from people also, so you can test your charging system too. Batteries often fail in the winter, that's when they get the hardest time. How to check a car battery with a Multimeter?A multimeter won't tell you the true state of a battery, unless it is badly discharged. You can read close to 12 Volts and the battery may still have problems. If the battery is fully charged you can get some indication of it's strength by reading the voltage while turning on the hi beam lights or by cranking the engine without allowing it to start. If the battery is good it shouldn't drop more than a couple of volts. Best bet is to take it to Auto Zone or one of the orher parts stores and have them load test it.How to check a car battery with a Multimeter?Depending if your multimeter is automatic just touch the red lead to the positive terminal, the black to the negative terminal. If it is a manual one set it to DC. It makes not difference if it is connected or not. Check it in the morning it should be between 12.5- 12.8, You can also check the output of your alternator, with the car running connect the leads the same way and the reading should be between 14.1 -14.7How to check a car battery with a Multimeter? You can check its voltage with a multimeter. You don't have to disconnect. If it is fully charged it will be about 14 volts.

But this isn't going to tell you much. A battery can be at full voltage but lose its charge very fast if it's bu99ered. The only way to really test it is to put a hefty load on it and see how long it lasts. How to check a car battery with a Multimeter? Its really not a reliable way unless the battery is totally hosed. Sears will check it for free and have the proper equipment to test it under load which is the only way that you'll know for sure. How to check a car battery with a Multimeter? Some good answers already. If you are worried about battery drainage problems, check out this read: http://www.ohmcheck.com/carbattery.htm Some good tips.

How do you make a battery to hold energy from a generator?

For a project, we've made a generator. How would we make a battery to hold the energy it porduces, so that we can use it later? It needs to be homemade, we can't buy one in the store. How do you make a battery to hold energy from a generator? What you are talking about is a rechargeable battery , which is a lot more complicated than a primary battery. You can't just put a copper and zinc strip in a lemon (that would be a primary battery, one that puts out electricity but can't be recharged)

The only conceivable to build rechargeable batteries are one's based on lead plates like they use in automobile batteries...but making the plates and putting the antimony and all that would be beyond most people's resources or time.

But there are other solutions to storing the power other than a homemade battery. You could use the generator to run a small air compressor and store the energy as compressed air and then use an air tools as a use of that stored power.

You could use the generator (DC volts) to do electrolysis of water and store the power produced as hydrogen and oxygen gas to be reunited and burned for heat.

You could use the generator to turn a small winch to raise a heavy weight to a certain height and use that raised weight as energy to drive a wheel or something else. A variation of this is to use the generator to run a small aquarium pump to pump water up hill for storage (Potential energy) and run the water back downhill to drive a pump or motorHow do you make a battery to hold energy from a generator?I suppose the easiest battery to construct with basic materials would be a lead acid battery each

section is capable of supplying 2 volts but requires about 2.2 volts to charge each cell.

Construction- you require for each cell a odd number of sheet lead oblong shaped plates and six thin wooden spacers to match . to make - stack the lead and wood interleaving each lead plate with wood

say you had 5 lead plates you now have to connect no.1 to no 3 to no 5 together to make one pole of the battery and no2 to no4 together to make the other pole of the battery find a suitable plastic container place your lead and wood construction in and carefully fill with sulphuric acid s.g about 1240.slowly charge

if working correctly the plates should give off gas NO SMOKING

You have not said what voltage your generator gives you might have to make more cells to suit the voltageHow do you make a battery to hold energy from a generator?I think you can't, because it isn't its nature. Only rechargeable ones can hold energy after charging and its not with generator but rather with battery charger.

How can I get low battery and incoming TMs to beep through my bluetooth using M Droid?

Every phone I have ever had gave an audible signal of low battery or incoming tms on the bluetooth that was paired with the phone. The Motorola Droid does not have that feature. I get notification of incoming calls but thats it. I want to know how to get other notifications using a bluetooth. The Bluetooth support on Android, hate to say it as I own a Moto Droid myself, really s***s.

If you have a A2DP (i.e. %26quot;media%26quot; bluetooth) headset you get a bit more that's transmitted through Bluetooth, but not the regular voice-only Bluetooth.

I got a cheapo stereo A2DP compatible Bluetooth from my local BigLots! so that works, but I don't get all the warning sounds and whatnot.

I want to buy a car battery charger for my ice cream truck. Do you know how long the charge takes?

I bought an inverter for the chest freezer in my ice cream truck. The battery didn't stay charged more than 4 hours. I need to buy a car battery charger and another battery to keep it charged up. I was looking at a 2/6/10 amp charger. About how long would it take to charge one battery? I want a quick cheap one.I want to buy a car battery charger for my ice cream truck. Do you know how long the charge takes?an automotive cranking battery won't last 6 months in a deepcycle application - get the biggest heaviest deep cycle batteries you can afford.

you want to charge your batteries at a starting current that is no greater than 25% of the RC (reserve capacity) rating, or 10% of the AH (amp-hour) rating of the battery.

get a charger that automatically shifts into %26quot;float charge%26quot; or %26quot;maintain mode%26quot; when it's finished charging.

this is *not* the same as a %26quot;trickle charge%26quot;.I want to buy a car battery charger for my ice cream truck. Do you know how long the charge takes?First get a deep cycler batties.. A fast change will take a hour.

A will good charge is a slow charge over night. It depend a lot on the charger. A Non Mechanic charger could take over night.

Let me run a idea by you. Install to battlery under the hood. Wire them in seares. You now have a heavy duty 12 volt system. I would put in a heavey duity altermate. You batties would stay charge. Run a set of cables back to your chest freezer. While are on you rute leve the engine running. At night hook the main battery up to the charger. This way you batties stay charged and you freezer stay cold. Unless you can hook it to and out side power.

The second idea is to install generator. Have it feel off the truck gas tank.

You can install cables to the vehicle battery. However you will only have 4 or 5 hours if the engine is not running.

Hope one of these idea will help you. But you will need to get deep cycle battery that used on a boat. It will give you a longer charge time.I want to buy a car battery charger for my ice cream truck. Do you know how long the charge takes?First - you should NOT use automotive battery if you plan to drain it till dead. You should use marine DEEP DISCHARGE battery. They are design to be drained till dead and then recharged.

If the battery was 70 AMP HOUR, then at 10 AMP, it would take at least 7 hours (plus about 10% more for inefficiency).

Good Luck...I want to buy a car battery charger for my ice cream truck. Do you know how long the charge takes? You have picked a very low amperage charger and you can expect it to take 8 to 10 hours with this charger. I would move up to a larger charger probably 2/10/50 and this way it might not take so long.

  • How to make a battery powered tesla coil?

How do I make a battery powered tesla coil(obviously quite small)?

I've seen those mini ones as well, some smaller than a 9 volt battery. But I want to make it as large as possible while using batteries only. How to make a battery powered tesla coil?I built a battery powered tesla coil myself.

One of the hardest parts of working with batteries is their life span. The primary circuit of a tesla coil draws a LOT of current. Batteries are rated in amp-hours, meaning the number of hours they can go if the load is drawing 1 Amp of current. A good battery has about 4-6 amp hours. However, a tesla coil absolutely has to draw more current than 1 amp in order to get anywhere near a respectable current going through the primary current (remember that the primary coil has high current, and the secondary has high voltage). So the batteries will die very quickly.

I built my coil using lantern batteries, 2 of them in series (12V), running through a pulse circuit and a car ignition coil to produce high voltage. The ignition coil will output somewhere around a 1-inch spark at a very high frequency.

The ignition coil method (which is by far, the most efficient tesla coil you can make with a limited power supply like batteries) works very well. I have used the ignition coil tesla coil method run plasma globes, make Kirlian photos, etc.

This is the way that it works:

An ignition coil requires a pulsed AC signal in order to continuously output a spark like a tesla coil. Batteries are DC, so you need to find a way to pulse the DC signal. Specifically, you need to make a square wave(a square wave is where it goes on-off-on-off thousands of times per second).

There are two ways to do this:

    1. Use a relay wired as and electromechanical buzzer. It sounds very diificult, but it is not. It is $2.00 worth of parts and can be assembeled without soldering in less than 5 minutes. This way is the most similar way to the one that Tesla used.

    2. Make an integrated circuit. There are a lot of people out there on the web who have used transistors to develop a complicated circuit that will pulse a 555 timer to drive an ignition coil. If you are good at soldering and circuitry, this way probably makes a nicer spark.

I answer a lot of tesla coil and Nikola Tesla questions, so you might want to browse thru my profile for more info.

How long must I drive to recharge the battery to recover the power used by starting the car?

Starting a car engine takes a certain amount of power from your car battery. How long does it typically take for the car's alternator to charge the battery back up to pre-start levels? How long must I drive to recharge the battery to recover the power used by starting the car?It usually depends on the vehicle you have. For Example: a small 4 cylinder engine doesn't take the same cranking amps as a 8 cylinder diesal engine. But for most vehicles with no starting or battery problems. On most cars except big block diesals and v8's, it usually takes no longer than 5 to 10 minutes of running to fully recover your battery's charge. How long must I drive to recharge the battery to recover the power used by starting the car?20 minutesHow long must I drive to recharge the battery to recover the power used by starting the car?answer one is generally correct, however, would depend upon what size alternator your vehicle has, and if you turn on other systems while recharging, such as the radio, AC, head lights.

Without turning any electric systems on, an alternator in good shape, battery in good shape, and a well tuned car, should not take more than 10 minutes to replace the AMPS used starting the engine

I have a digital camera that the battery door is broke and it does'nt hold the batteries in securely. How much does it cost to fix it, and is it hard to do?How much does it cost to fix the battery door on a digital camera?H there. I don't think you are going to be happy with the answer, but unfortunately, and as you know, no one makes things to last anymore which is why we spend more time buying things and replacing them than we spend using them. To fix the door you can expect to spend somewhere between $60.00 (very conservative) to about $110.00 depending. You might be wondering why so much when it is such a tiny door and looks so easy to repair. The answer is that camera repair techs charge between $60.00 and $80.00 an hour for labor. When they start a job even if it only takes 5 minutes, that is considered 1 hour. Then add the cost of the part (for which might have to be ordered) and the tax. There you go. You may decide to go ahead and replace the camera with the newer model/technology for about $100.00 more. In that case, one thing you can do is really examine that battery door and make sure it seems sturdy. Hope that helps.

It cost me $125 plus tax. The battery was $94.99 and it was a DieHard Gold from Sears, $12.99 for labor, and $10 for some isc. stuff. Now they are telling me I need a new alternator because it is over charging. I have sub woofers in my car and they think it is draining the battery. How long is a car battery supposed to last? Most Batteries only last between 3-5 years.. It all depends on the conditions of Where you live, How you drive, What your driving habits( just around town or highway driving) if you keep up with maintenance of the vehicle. Batteries fail prematurely because of a variety of situations, including poor battery maintenance, hot weather, hot engine temperatures and a failing alternator. Sometimes a defect in the battery may cause it to fail early

How do I maintain my battery?

Follow these guidelines every three to six months to extend the life of your low-maintenance Interstate battery:

    1) Maintain Water Level. If your battery has removable vent caps, you should regularly check the water level and add water when it is low.

    2) Keep Terminals Clean. Visually inspect the terminals and cables at least once a year, especially in hot temperatures, for signs of corrosion. If dirty or corroded, clean the connections with a scraper and wire brush. This will ensure a good connection and proper starting.

    3) Keep Case Clean. Keep the top of the battery clean of heavy dirt and oil with a cloth dampened by ammonia or a 50/50 solution of baking soda and water. Then rinse with clear water and allow to thoroughly dry.

    4) Keep Battery Charged. If your vehicle is not driven weekly, it may be necessary to charge your battery before use. Lack of use is hard on a battery, especially an automotive battery which is designed to be charged regularly by an alternator. Any unused battery, regardless of its chemistry, will self-discharge over time and, if allowed to remain discharged, will undergo severe positive grid corrosion and battery failure. The rate of discharge depends on the type of battery and the storage temperature. So, it's important to keep your battery charged.

If you prefer that your mechanic take care of your battery, be sure to ask him (1) to maintain the water level and (2) to keep the connections and case clean of corrosion and dirt.

    --------------------------------------?br>

As batteries age, do their maintenance requirements change? Yes. Typically the specific gravity gets higher and gassing increases due to some battery deterioration and/or loss of reserve capacity. An older battery normally requires more charging.

Heavy-Duty Construction Provides Long Life and Dependable ServiceHow long is a car battery supposed to last?i know you have a lot of different opinions on here as far as life goes of the battery , it all depends on climate and how you use your car. if you are going to pay over a hundred bucks for a battery , my preference is a optima dry cell or gel cell they do not require maintenance and do not create corrosion. i had one in my car it lasted over 7 years. interstate can sell you one of these the cost just a little more but are definitely worth it in the long runHow long is a car battery supposed to last?Bottom line, it depends on how you use your car. I've had batteries last from 13 months to 4 years. The 13 month battery was on a car I got brand new; however, my sales job requires me to travel 950 miles per week and start the car 8-12 times a day. No wonder the battery didn't last.

I've had several Sears DieHard batteries that had to be replaced after 2-3 years with minimal hardship. My father worked at AutoZone for a while and told me of their Duralast batteries being ranked really well. This was the last battery I've bought and have had no problems (had only 8 months though).

If you wish to use this as a backup, in case your other battery should ever fail, then wire the auxillary battery to a solenoid, that is controlled by the ignition switch. That way, it will come on when the key is on, and will be charged by the alternator, yet won't go dead with the main battery. You could jam the stereo till the main went real low, turn the key on and have full power.

It's hard to say how long the battery will last. Not all batteries are the same. Even if they are for the same laptop. You should be able to disable the warning though. my son also has a cycle and the charger is not a regular battery charger that is used on a car battery. however i'm also aware that the charger is only a trickle charger that is used when the cycle is not be used every day.How long should a brand new 12v motorcycle battery take to charge?if that is a new Battery that was just filled with acid you can put it on your 2 amp charger for an hour and you will be okHow long should a brand new 12v motorcycle battery take to charge? That means you don't charge/equalize that battery with constant charging

    with a 2 Amp. charger.

That's an automotive charger and the rate is too high for so small a battery.

A 500mA. charger is pretty cheap, but if you have to use the 2 Amp unit:

Charge it for a half hour or so, or until all cells are gassing.

(Watch the battery and stop charging when all cells are bubbling.)

Stop. Let it rest for an hour or two. Charge again untill it gasses.

Let it rest/equalize again for an hour or two.

Charge again. - Top up any 'low' cells. and install.

How do you jumpstart a car if the battery dies on you?

I think I know how but never did it before.

You have a second car running and you put the red jump cable on the positive side and the black cable on the negative side. Then with the red cable hooks up to the positive side of the dead battery. And the black cable hooks up to the negative side of the dead battery.

Is that correct? Cause I've heard if you hook it up wrong something can catch on fire???????

Thanks. How do you jumpstart a car if the battery dies on you?Actually I think most auto manuals suggest you attach the black cable to the engine block of the car with the bad battery. This last connection usually causes a spark and if the battery is leaking any hydrogen gas (a possibility) you would rather that spark not be right next to the battery. How do you jumpstart a car if the battery dies on you?You have it exactly correct. Yes you must hook it up this way or you can damage the battery ond/or yourself. If it still wont start you may not be getting a good connection so you will need to clean the posts and connectors. How can I make sure that my laptops battery will last longer?

I noticed that my old laptops battery didn't hold it's charge anymore. It would have to be plugged in the entire time otherwise it would shut off and die right away.

With my new laptop, I want to make sure that its battery will hold it's charge and last longer than my older one. What steps should I take or what should I do to make sure it will last? How can I make sure that my laptops battery will last longer?Never leave the battery in your laptop when it's fully charge and hooked onto the wall.

Once the battery is fully charge, take it out of your laptop unless you are going to power your laptop with it.

Try to always wait until the battery is low to recharge it as you will minimize the number of cycles (charging and discharging). laptop batteries have a limited number of cycles before they don't hold a charge.

How can I make sure that my laptops battery will last longer?I hear, when you get a NEW laptop, or anything with a rechargeable battery, you should charge it over night. Straight out of the box, a nice long charge, and don't take it out even if it says full.

I hear also if your in the house, try not to keep letting the battery die then charge it, keep the laptop plugged in. Interestingly i hear leaving it plugged in too much is also not good so i have been using a happy medium. How can I make sure that my laptops battery will last longer? Most modern laptops have a power save software program built in. This usually automatically manages everything to optimize the performance for what battery life you have left. Although, there are some things you can do yourself to make sure it has a good healthy life.

When you charge it, make sure you fully charge it (not 50%, 75% etc.).

If you're working on battery power, try not to run too many power consuming applications (things like full screen games, HD video etc).

Last but not least, if you ever want to leave your computer for a short amount of time, never leave it running; you can turn on Hibernation (or sleep on a Mac) which will save your session to disc whilst consuming the least amount of power.

Hope this helps. How can I make sure that my laptops battery will last longer?1. When your computer isn't in use, but you don't want it turned off, put it in sleep and take out the charger.

    2. When it's off, take out the charger.

    3. When it's fully charged AND you're using it, take it out. When it gets to about half charge, go ahead and plug it in again. Repeat.

    4. Avoid extensive use of the AC adapter in general.

Hope that helped. How can I make sure that my laptops battery will last longer?Laptop battery will always be losing its capacity over time. I have beard to have the battery constantly charging is the worst you can do to shorten its life.

So whenever you have the battery fully charged you shall remove it from your laptop as long as you are plugging in with the AC powder.

good luck. How can I make sure that my laptops battery will last longer?Rechargeable batteries form a 'memory' of their use. In all cases of using rechargeables, charge it right out of the box for 24 hours. Then use the battery until it's power is spent. Recharge and go through the same cycle several times.

If you recharge your battery when it is only at 50% on a consistent basis, it will get locked into that lower limit and you will only get 50% of it's available power. Same with charging. Not charging to full capacity will make it's upper limit get locked in at less than full.

if you want it to have permanant power, eg:, while ignition off, find the clocks power source, or interior light, or whatever works constantly, and tap into that...How do you wire from cigarette lighter to battery?Go to an auto electric repairer or four wheel drive (SUV) shop and you will be able to buy an adaptor so that you can hook your light up to a cigarette lighter socket with leeds that will attach to your battery. Or you can make one yourself by buying the female lighter socket from an electical parts store and attach alligator clips to the wires. (they usually crimp or screw on which is easy to do yourself)

It does not matter which wire connects to which terminal on the battery. Just make sure that the clips are put on the battery terminals or clamps in such a way that they will not spring off (this is a problem if the positive wire stays connnected to the battery and the negative clip makes earth contact with the car as this could damage your electrics )

Look at the link below for a sample of the adaptor I am talking about.
