How is a Li ion battery based notebook diff from others? How can it be best maintained?

I ve a Li ion note book pc with me. I want to know how can it be best maintained for a long life? Should run through the cycles - charging fully and discharging fully repeatedly like any other battery notebook or not?How is a Li ion battery based notebook diff from others? How can it be best maintained?Li-Ion batteries are usually lighter, can last longer and avoid the typical memory effect found in Ni-Cad batteries.

Although Li-Ion and Li-Ion Polymer batteries are known for not having memory effect issues, the battery cells do need to be conditioned immediately upon receiving the battery and then once a month to help those individual cells remember to hold a charge. Frequent shallow charges do not condition the battery and can effect the battery's over all life span and performance.

Li-Ion batteries also do slowly discharge when not in use. If you are not going to be using the battery for several weeks or months, you will still want to keep the battery is good performance by conditioning it with a complete drain and a full charge at least once a month.
