How do i best store a battery (for my digital camera)?

I am looking to buy a digital camera and a couple of spare batteries to go with it. On most occasions i will not need to use them, but these are for future use, when the primary battery performance deteriorates.

The reason i am buying multiple spare batteries up front, cause i may not have access to buy them later (i stay in india and may not necessarily travel then).

I have read somewhere that storing batteries in a refrigerator helps. Is this true? Any other suggestions? How do i best store a battery (for my digital camera)?Storing batteries in the fridge does not help at all. This used to work for some types of battery 30 years ago but not today. Just store them in a non-conductive container in a dry place and they should be fine. How do i best store a battery (for my digital camera)?Look at this page and scroll down until you find a battery that is either exactly like yours or close enough. You will find very specific recommendations for storage.

The recommendations are so different for different battery types that I can not make a general statement about refrigeration, but it's all there.
