I have a new asus eee netbook 10 inch screen 1005HA which boasts a battery life of 8.5 hours. The instructions are basic and say to charge the battery but don't say how long. I charged it for 8 hours initially and it lasted only 4 hours. I then charged battery again until it showed a 100% battery full, and I have only had just under 3 hours and was warned that the battery was almost dead. That being said, typically, 3-5 hours is fine when the system is off and charging with a dead battery. Most systems have the battery already charged on delivery so it may take less time. The battery wont overcharge. You have nothing to worry about. When you had under 3 hours left and it showed a warning, its just like that. you can change the settings and make it so it will show a warning when its under a hour or like under 10 min or w.e. you feel like making it.
So, you cant overcharge the battery so just leave it plugged in all the time
