How do you jumpstart a car if the battery dies on you?

I think I know how but never did it before.

You have a second car running and you put the red jump cable on the positive side and the black cable on the negative side. Then with the red cable hooks up to the positive side of the dead battery. And the black cable hooks up to the negative side of the dead battery.

Is that correct? Cause I've heard if you hook it up wrong something can catch on fire???????

Thanks. How do you jumpstart a car if the battery dies on you?Actually I think most auto manuals suggest you attach the black cable to the engine block of the car with the bad battery. This last connection usually causes a spark and if the battery is leaking any hydrogen gas (a possibility) you would rather that spark not be right next to the battery. How do you jumpstart a car if the battery dies on you?You have it exactly correct. Yes you must hook it up this way or you can damage the battery ond/or yourself. If it still wont start you may not be getting a good connection so you will need to clean the posts and connectors. You probably need to do that anyway. No need to have it running prior to the start. I'll add one point; while connecting/connected make sure the loose cable ends don't contact the other or allow the (+) to contact a vehicle ground.(-)How do you jumpstart a car if the battery dies on you?Watch this video closely:
