i'm lookin to relocate my car battery from under the hood to the trunk, how to do it and what all i would need. How to relocate my battery to my trunk in a 2005 SRT-4 how to.....?just splice in new wire and run it all the way to the trunk. You should be able to attach it to the side of the frame rail under the car, make sure it is water proof. You dont want it grounding out to the frame. I dont know if they sell long wires like that or if you will have to just find somethingHow to relocate my battery to my trunk in a 2005 SRT-4 how to.....?I'm assuming you have a power distribution center under the hood, that the Positive battery cable goes to? Go to your local welding supply store and get about 20-25 feet (better too long than too short, Maybe figure out the routing first, then add a few feet to what you think you'll need)) of, I think it's like single 0 (ought) gauge cable for an ARC welder. Check with the guy at the welding supply store might remember better, or help you figure out which size would be best. Solder a terminal (from same WSS) of the appropriate type on one end to fit the power distribution center where the Positive cable used to go.
Find a route through the car back to the trunk (under the rocker sill, past the side of the back seats and so forth. You may need to cut some holes and fit some grommets, to prevent chafing), and fit a battery terminal to the other end, after trimming off any extra length. Use a Marine battery box bolted or strapped to the trunk floor to mount the battery in, and make sure the box is vented to the atmosphere, in case battery gases build up.
Buy a new Negative battery cable, and on that cable or the old one, strip off the terminal, replace it with an eyelet like you used on the Positive to the power distribution center, and bolt it to a clean (paint free) thick piece of the chassis in the engine compartment area, instead of the battery. Do the same with the other Negative cable to a suitable area in the trunk of your car, and the other end to the Negative post of the battery. The Negative cables can be normal size (of a good quality brand), but the Positive must be larger because of the extra length. The chassis will carry all the ground current quite easily, as long as the cables are bolted to a substantial, thick, clean of rust and paint, piece of chassis metal. Re-use your old Negative cable wherever it fits best if it's in good shape, then buy a new one that's long enough to reach where you need for the other one.
To summarize, Positive cable directly from battery Positive post to power distribution center post. Negative cable from battery Negative post to chassis in trunk, and from chassis in engine compartment to wherever the original cable bolted to. If the original went to chassis you can skip that, as there should then be one from the chassis to the engine for starter and other engine grounds. If it went to the engine though, fasten one end there and fasten other end that went to the battery, to the chassis instead.
