How far should hybrid run off the battery before the gas engine starts?
Let me be very specific- I am looking for the actual criteria as to when the %26quot;traction%26quot; battery needs replacing in a hybrid. My wife's Camry hybrid hardly ever runs off just the battery. The gas engine is off at a stop light or going down hill but almost all the rest of the time the gas motor is running. It seems at very slow speeds and for very short distances it should run off the battery. How does one tell when the traction battery needs to be replaced? There should be a quantitative description, not just %26quot;it depends%26quot; Thanks! How far should hybrid run off the battery before the gas engine starts? The car will only run off the battery at very low speeds. If the car were to only run off the battery you might get a few blocks before the hybrid battery is drained. The gas engine is being used as a generator at times to keep the electric motors running. This is normal for your vehicle to only turn off at stop lights or downhill. when going downhill the electric motor is being used as a generator to charge the hybrid battery. There is no way to tell you when the battery needs to be replaced but I can tell you that your car will have a hybrid warning light (similar to check engine light) when there is a problem in that system.white hair dog
